Colorado Trail ("we," "our," or "us") provides the Colorado Trail mobile application (the "Service"). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our Service.

We built this Service with a "privacy-first" approach. We do not require account registration, we do not serve advertisements, and we do not track your individual behavior for marketing purposes.

1. Information Collection and Use

No Personal Data Collection

We do not collect any personally identifiable information (PII) such as your name, email address, phone number, or contacts. The Service is designed to be used anonymously.

User-Generated Content (Markers)

Our Service allows you to add custom markers to the map. These are handled as follows:

Private Markers: Markers created for your own personal use are stored locally on your device or in a private cloud storage area. We do not share these with other users.
Shared Markers: If you choose to "share" a marker, it is uploaded to our server and becomes visible to all users of the Service.
Anonymity: Shared markers do not contain any personally identifiable information. Your identity is not revealed to other users when they view a marker you have shared.

Location Data

To provide the core functionality of the Service (showing your position on trails), the app may require access to your device's location services.

How it is used: Your location is used locally on your device to center the map and show your progress on trails.
Storage: We do not store your continuous location history on our servers.
Third Parties: Precise location data is processed by Google Maps (see Section 2).

Technical and Network Information

This Service does not maintain its own back-level database of user profiles. However, like all internet-connected mobile applications, standard technical data is processed in the following ways:

Network Communication: To retrieve trail data, sync shared markers, and load map tiles, the app must contact our server and third-party servers (such as Google). This involves the transmission of your device's IP address and basic device information to fulfill the request.
Crash Reporting: If the app crashes, diagnostic information may be made available to us via the Google Play Console. This is used solely to fix bugs and improve the Service.

2. Third-Party Services

This Service utilizes third-party providers that may collect information used to identify you.

Google Maps API

Our Service uses Google Maps to provide mapping functionality. By using our Service, you are bound by Google’s Privacy Policy.

Google may collect data about your location, device information, and map interactions.

3. Data Accuracy and Safety Disclaimer

Use at your own risk. The trail maps, user-generated markers, and information provided through this Service are for informational purposes only. While we strive for accuracy, trail conditions, accessibility, and markers can change without notice. We do not guarantee that the information is accurate, complete, or up-to-date.

Always obey local trail signs, closures, and laws. Your safety is your responsibility. We are not liable for any injuries, damages, or incidents occurring while using the Service.

4. Links to Other Sites

Our Service may contain links to other sites. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site. Note that these external sites are not operated by us; therefore, we strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of these websites.

5. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children. Because we do not collect personal data from any users, we do not maintain or store any information related to children.

6. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top.
